Resurfacing and Sidewalk Project for Lewis County Route B to Begin

April 14, 2021

Weather permitting, Monday, April 19, the Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor will begin work on an improvement project located on Route B in Lewis County. The project includes 12.3 miles of resurfacing from U.S. Route 61 at Canton to U.S. Route 61 at LaGrange, as well as bringing sections of the area in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The initial phase will include all ADA work and is expected to last through mid-June. "We will replace sidewalks on the north end of Canton, and improve cross walks at several intersections in Canton and two corners in La Grange, as well as adding wheelchair ramps," said MoDOT Resident Engineer Martin Lincoln, Jr. There will be minimal impacts to drivers during the ADA work.

Resurfacing is expected to begin mid-June and includes a one-inch overlay on Route B, outside the city limits of Canton and LaGrange. "First the old surface will be removed with a process called milling, and as we remove that surface, a new surface will be immediately laid," explained Crawford. A mill and fill operation will occur within the city limits of the two municipalities with no milled areas to remain open overnight. "During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are active, and we appreciate all drivers paying attention and slowing down through the work zone for our workers' safety as well as all drivers," Lincoln stressed. Changeable message boards, signs, flaggers and a pilot vehicle will be used for traffic control. The resurfacing phase of work is scheduled to be completed by mid-July.

The work will be completed by Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., who was awarded the contract earlier this year in the amount of $1,591,332.
