BILLY VERNON SLY

Billy Vernon Sly, 85, was born near Williamstown in Lewis county and died December 14, 2020 after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage. Bill graduated from Canton High School, class of 1953. In 1958 he married Edith (Edie) Hustad. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he spent a little more than 20 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. His tours of duty outside the United States included France, England, Ethiopia and Thailand. After retirement, he and his wife, Edie traveled for several years in their RV, always spending some time with members of the Sly family and friends in the area. He frequently attended reunions of the class of 1953 and will be sorely missed by those who remember him.

He is survived by his wife, his children, Nancy Johnston and Thomas Sly (Debra), two grandsons, Andrew and Daniel grandchildren and 3 step-great great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Charles R. Sly of Ewing, MO, sisters, Betty Duncan of Horseshoe Lake, AR, Shirley Rhodes of Carthage, IL, and his sister-in-law, Pam Sly of LaBelle, MO as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Diane Sly and Susan Sly as well as his younger brother, John R. Sly and sisters, Dora Dean Snider and Imogene Gibson and his parents.

A private memorial service will be held and his cremains will be interred at the Arizona Veteran’s Cemetery in Marana, Arizona, at a later date.
