CLARENCE JOSEPH BARTZ

Clarence Joseph Bartz, 89, of Maywood, MO, died Feb. 23, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family.
Clarence was born February 26, 1931 in Fairfield, IA. He was the son of the late Charles and Etta (Doran) Bartz. He married Dorothy Rae Whitaker on July 24, 1954 in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1994.

Clarence was employed with Gardner Denver in Quincy, IL for many years before retiring in 1992. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He also had the pleasure of attending the Honor Flight in April of 2012.

Clarence enjoyed reminiscing about the good times throughout his life- including his favorite story of venturing to Missouri in a covered wagon as a young boy. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and riding them around on his golf cart with a huge smile. His favorite pastime was to sit outside on his porch, as well as fishing. Clarence had a beloved dog “Skeeter” who never left his side.

Clarence is survived by five children: Wayne (Sherry) Bartz of Maywood, MO; Linda (Randy) Routt of Ewing, MO; Lavon Mathes of Maywood, MO; Sally Laws of Ewing, MO; and Sandy (Kevin) Meany of Maywood, MO. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Jimmy (Holly) Mathes, Travis (Bubba) Mathes (Amanda Russell), Zack (Kaylynn) Mathes, Bessie Goerlich, JR (Nikki) Routt, Curtis (Kendra) Meany, Jill (Austin) Haubrich, Nikki (Chris) Mitts, Jordan Bartz, Summer Bartz. Clarence had 20 great-grandchildren. He also had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece Jennie (Danny) Johnston. Clarence was one of 15 children. Surviving siblings are Dort Waters, John Bartz Sr., and Janie (Billy Joe) Smith.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, a son-in-law Travis Mathes, and siblings: Charles Bartz, Gin Kaylor, Mary Weikert, Sis Henson, Helen Sly, Donna Miller, Rete Helfrich, Darlene Bartz, Bob Bartz, Bill Bartz, and Pete Bartz.

Funeral services were held March 1,2021 at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev Lance Bonnell officiating. Visitation was held Feb. 28. Pallbearers: Jimmy Mathes, Travis (Bubba) Mathes, JR Routt, Curt Meany, Zack Mathes and Jordan Bartz. Music: Go Rest High on that Mountain and Grandpa.

Burial with military honors was in Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, MO.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Great River Honor Flight or to Community Loving Care Hospice in Bowling Green, MO.
