The Highland Lady Cougars had a good showing at the Troy Buchanan Lead-Off Classic Tournament on Saturday.  The first game was scoreless going into the 5th inning.  A good Timberland team scored with two outs on a base hit to left in the top of the 5th.  As time expired in the bottom of the 5th, Highland tied it with a two out bases loaded HBP by Gwyn Murphy, forcing an international tie breaker.  Timberland scored 5 in the top of the 6th and Highland was unable to answer.  Murphy pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), and struck out 10.  Payton miller was on base 3 times going 2 for 2 with a walk and a double.

In game 2, Payton Miller got the ball and pitched a complete game for the victory over Warrenton 8-1.  Miller scattered 7 hits, gave up 1 unearned run and struck out 8, while walking none.  Emma Harshberger and Brianna Neisen each finished with 2 hits a piece.

In game 3, the Lady Cougars face a very tough Holt team that out hit Highland 13-7.  The final score was 12-2 Holt in 6 innings.  Amber Megee and Payton Miller each finished with 2 hits in the game.  Emma Harshberger took the loss giving up 9 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

The coaching staff was very impressed with how well the girls played and were very proud of the effort throughout the day.

"Playing back to back to back games is tough, and I was very pleased with how well our girls played.  The first two games were great and we executed very well.  There was a bit of a let down in game three, but all in all, I was very proud of our girls and thought that they did a great job." - Coach Scifres
