NECAC offers Summer Energy Assistance

June 02, 2020

The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is urging qualified applicants to sign up for summer energy assistance.
The Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) begins June 1. The program will continue until this year’s funding runs out or until the program ends Sept. 30.
ECIP pays overdue electricity bills of up to $300 for income-qualifying households. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is distributed through the Missouri Department of Social Services, which then contracts with NECAC to administer the program in Lewis and 11 other counties.
“Participants must have received a utility shut-off notice for electric service or have terminated services,” said NECAC Supervisor Angela Kattenbraker. “If they received assistance from the winter portion of the program through NECAC and did not move, all that will be needed is the shut-off notice. Those who are new to the program, have received LIHEAP but moved, and those who did not participate in the winter portion must complete an application for assistance.”
In 2019, NECAC assisted 2,922 households in its 12-county service area, up from 2,356 the previous year.
People may sign up or request more information by calling or visiting the following the NECAC Lewis County Service Center, 408 S. Fourth in Canton, at 573-288-3969.
