Blessing Health System adds Coronavirus information to its website

March 11, 2020

The first line of defense against the spread of Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is education and proper personal hygiene. For those reasons, Blessing Health System has added a page to its website dedicated to Coronavirus. It can be found at blessinghealth.org/coronavirus.

Among the topics found on the page is a short video from the health system’s Chief Quality and Safety Officer, Mary Frances Barthel, MD, discussing how Coronavirus is spread and how to reduce the risk of contracting the virus, and a link to the latest information from the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

“Most people around the world who have contracted this virus have not needed hospitalization and have recovered,” said Dr. Barthel. “Just as with the flu, Coronavirus is most dangerous to those with immune systems compromised by chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and cancer.”

“Blessing caregivers treat patients with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases nearly every day and the safety of all involved is the foundation of that care,” added Dr. Barthel. “The health system is prepared and its caregivers are educated and equipped to protect the health of patients, visitors and each other should Coronavirus appear in the Tri-State area.”

blessinghealth.org/coronavirus will be updated as needed.
