MARY FINNEY

Mary Sue Finney, 95, died February 24, 2020. She was born in Canton, Missouri on November 8, 1924 to Oscar and Ina (Turley) Marks. She graduated from Culver- Stockton College in Canton, where she met and married John (“Jack”) S. Finney, who graduated from the college after serving as a Marine Raider in World War II. Shortly after, they moved to St. Louis, and made Webster Groves their home. They were married for 59 years until Jack’s death in 2007.

In her “empty nest” years, Mary Sue enjoyed her 20-year career as a legal secretary in the law department of Peabody Coal Company. Mary Sue was enthusiastically devoted to her daughter Susan, and her two grandchildren Matthew and Mark, taking immense pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments. She loved music, and was a talented pianist and singer. She had a passion for the opera, and was an avid reader. She loved watching Sunday football, playing bridge and mastering the daily crossword puzzle.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Laclede Groves, at 11 a.m. on March 19, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Opera Theatre of St. Louis or Shepherd’s Center, in Webster Groves, MO.

Inurnment will take place at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, MO.
