Old Iron Bridge Closes

Bridge 2070017 on County Road 552 over the Wyaconda River (locally known as the "old iron bridge" near Sunflower Road between LaGrange and Canton was closed on Jan. 9, 2020. The Lewis County Commission closed the bridge upon the recommendation from MoDOT. The undermining of the bottom row of stones ranges from one foot on the corners to several inches on the middle stones. Should this rock ridge deteriorate any further it could cause a complete collapse of the bridge. Pictured is the bridge before it closed and also shown is the masonry abutment of the bridge and how it is deteriorating.
