Local Election Filing Continues

Several local races will take place in the general election to be held April 7, 2020. Filings for most positions began Dec. 17 with the deadline to file Jan. 21, 2020. The City of LaGrange has different filing dates.

Canton R-V Board of Education has three seats with three years terms up for election. Persons wanting to file may do so at the Canton R-V Superintendent’s office at Third and Madison Jan. 6-17, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Jan. 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lewis County C-1 School District has three positions up for election, each with three year terms. Interested candidates may file at the Lewis County C-1 Central Office. Filing will not occur on days the school’s district office is closed for inclement weather and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Jan. 20. The last day of filing is Jan 21 at 5 p.m.
The City of Canton will elect one alderman each for Wards 1, 2 and 3, all with two-year terms.

The R-4 Fire Protection District will elect one position for board member for a term of six years.

The City of LaBelle has positions for two aldermen for South Ward for two-year terms each and one alderman for North ward for a two year term. The Village of Monticello will not be holding an election

Lewis County Emergency Services Board has four board members positions up for election with one member at large for a four year term, two positions for Northern District Board member with four year terms and one position for Southern Board member, also with a four year term. The Lewis County Nursing Home will elect directors with three year terms for one position in Sub-District One and one position in Sub-District Three.

Lewis County Ambulance positions available for two directors for three-year terms, one Director from District 3 and one Director from District 4.

Dickerson Special Road District will elect one position for board of directors for a three year term. LaGrange Special Road District will fill one vacancy as commissioner for a term of three years. Lewis County Health Department will elect one trustee for a four year term.

The City of LaGrange election will be held April 21, 2020. One council position is up for election in each ward, North, Middle and South, each with a two year term. Deadline to file for the LaGrange positions is February 6, 2020.

Filing for the August 4, 2020 primary election will open February 25, 2020 at 8 a.m. and continued until March 31, 2020 at 5 p.m. Filing for the following offices will take place at the Lewis County Courthouse in Monticello: Northern County Commissioner, Southern County Commissioner, Assessor, Coroner, Public Administrator, Sheriff and Surveyor.
