Highland Superintendent's Corner

November 26, 2019

As last week was American Education Week, I want to send a huge shout out to all of the Lewis County C-1 District teachers, staff members, and board members for all they do to better the lives of our kids in the district. We continue to do great things at Highland in both buildings, which I hope everyone is following on our new app. If you haven't downloaded the app yet, please take a couple minutes to download the app. I especially want to thank the teachers and staff at Lewis County C-1 School District. We truly have a great team and outstanding students!

This month also featured Veteran's Day, which Mother Nature decided to mess with a little, but both buildings held their annual Veteran's Day activities including Veteran's Music Program at the Elementary and breakfast for the Veterans at Highland High School in conjunction with a special Veteran's program. The HHS History club also sponsored their annual Veteran's Day program at the Lewis County Courthouse. Special thanks go out to all of our service men and women, as well as the veterans who are currently or have defended our country!

The year seems to be flying by as we are already to the Thanksgiving break and Christmas is just around the corner. Lewis County C-1 has been a busy place with lots of planning for improvement and continued success taking place. The board and administration are currently working to rewrite the district overall Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, which will most definitely need to involve the input of the community, including parents and businesses. Please be on the lookout very soon for some surveys and requests for input regarding the District's long range planning goals. We want to serve the kids of our school district in the best ways possible, while also promoting and growing our local communities. If there is an organization out there that school could assist in some way, please reach out to district to see how we could partner together. Contact either of the building principals, Larry Post (HES) or Susan Rossmiller (HHS), or my office and ask to speak to me personally!

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone gets to spend some quality time with family, friends, and loved ones during this holiday weekend. If you dare to venture out for Black Friday shopping, good luck and may you find all the bargains you set out to get!
