Yesteryear Photo

October 02, 2019

This week’s yesteryear photo was provided by George Calvert of Canton. The picture is at his grandfather’s farm in Iowa during the threshing season in the early 1900s. W.B. Calvert’s farm was located in Rock Falls, Iowa, northeast of Mason City. The Calvert’s moved to Linn County around 1919. The threshing machine was run by steam, hard hot work for those helping. A crew would come to each farm to do the threshing and usually the farmer's wife provided a huge meal for the hungry workers.
