DERL RAY BOWMAN

Derl Ray Bowman, age 71, went to his Heavenly home while surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

Derl was born on April 10, 1948 in Quincy, IL to Ray Lester and Geneva Christine Sparrow Bowman. He was a 1966 graduate of La Grange High School. Prior to graduating high school, Derl was working for his future father-in-law on the family farm in rural La Grange. Upon graduation, Derl attended IBM school in Kansas City, MO to study computer wiring. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1966-1968. On October 7, 1967, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Durst Bowman. He and his wife helped grow and sustain a multi-generational family farming operation. She survives.

Derl was a well-known swine and crop farmer in Northeast Missouri. He was active in the Missouri Pork Producers Association, served on the Lewis County C-1 school board as a member and president, and was a contributor to the La Grange Community Youth Center. He was a real estate agent at Happel Realtors and a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.

Derl lived his life as a servant leader. He was always the first to help a person in need. He was passionate about many things in life, but the love he had for his family was beyond measure. Derl is survived by his son, Daryn Ray, daughter-in-law, Amy Meyer (Taylor, MO) and his daughter, Denise Marie Moore, and son-in-law, Scott (Quincy, IL). Derl’s legacy will live on through his most prized possessions, his grandchildren: Kenady Layne Moore, Kaitlyn Marie Moore, Alayna Ryan Moore, Drake Richard Moore, and Emily Rae Bowman.

A daughter by heart, Kendra Michelle Scifres (Paul), and their children, Camden, Carli, Ava, and Aspen Scifres also survive him. He is also survived by a special niece, Marla Gilliland (Jeff), and their children Jared Gilliland (Lily), and Jordan Gilliland, and Jared’s daughter, Julie, as well as Jason and Justin Bowman. Additional survivors include his mother-in-law (Irene Durst), brothers and sisters in-law, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother (Leon), and his father-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 2020 S. 24th Street, Quincy, IL.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 2020 S. 24th Street, Quincy, IL with Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Pallbearers will be: Bruce Brunk, Mike Durst, John Knoche, Tim Stahl, Dewayne Waterman, and David Wheeler. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jared Gilliland, Jordan Gilliland, Ethan Durst, Evan Knoche, Tim Cramsey, Adam Wardlow, Tucker Martin and Halsey Fischer

Music will be provided by : Camden Scifres, Vocalist and Evelyn Scifres, Organist
Burial will be in Mark’s Cemetery in La Grange, MO.
