Canton R-V Board of Education May 2019 Monthly Meeting
The Canton R-V School District Board of Education met on May 10, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. for the regular monthly meeting.
In open session, the Board approved the consent agenda and financial report. The current balance in Funds 1-4 as of
4/30/2019 was $3,381,448.80. This balance is a $297,158.82 increase over the previous year. The unrestricted balance in
Fund 1 is currently $1,483,345.85.
In open forum, the Board and administration recognized five students who qualified for Future Business Leaders of
America (FBLA) Nationals in San Antonio, Texas on June 29 – July 2, 2019. Laken Hugenberg, Lauren Frazier, Aubrey
Bliss, Sue Sutton, and Dalton Berhorst will all represent Canton R-V High School during the National Convention.
The Board heard a report about the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education accreditation status for
the District. The State Board of Education took action on March 26, 2019, to classify Canton R-V School District as
accredited under the guidelines of the Missouri School Improvement Program 5.
In old business, the Board heard an update about the restroom renovations and enclosed walkway between the high school
and large gymnasium. In current business, the Board approved exploring a policy to allow students to enroll in online dual
enrollment courses. The Board also approved a memorandum of understanding to contract with the City of Canton Police
Department for a school resource officer beginning in August of 2019. Contracts were awarded for the following
construction projects:
W.L. Miller Company was awarded the asphalt replacement project for $77,151.
Zanger and Derhake was awarded the sanitation sewer replacement project for $10,438
Cam-Dex Security Corp. was awarded the security camera project for $45,958.
In other new business, the Board accepted the bid from Peoples Bank of Wyaconda for the District’s depository services.
The members also approved overnight trips for MSHSAA State track and field and FBLA Nationals. The Board approved
a $500 increase to the base salary and movements on the salary schedule for certified faculty. The Board approved the
recommendation that all current classified employees receive a two-percent raise and new classified employees as of
January 1, 2019, be transitioned to a classified employee salary schedule. The building principals and superintendent each
received a $1000 salary increase. The directors also declared a 1997 International Type C Conventional Bus as surplus
property.
In executive session, the Board accepted the resignation of Kristy Durst as Daycare Director. In other action, the Board
hired the following individuals:

-12th Math.
Also, extra duty contracts will be extended to all current sponsors and coaches and approved on June 10, 2019.
