April 2 is Election Day
The General Municipal Election will be held April 2, 2019. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling places include: Immanuel Methodist Church: Canton Rural, Wards 1, 2 and 3.
LaGrange, City Hall: LaGrange and Union Township. Ewing R-4 Fire Station: Ewing and Durham. Lewistown Fire Station: Lewistown, Steffenville and Salem Township. LaBelle Fire Station: LaBelle. Monticello Courthouse.
There are several issues to be decided. Ballot language reads: Lewis County Nursing Home District: Shall the Lewis County Nursing Home District be authorized to increase the annual rate of property tax from 13.99 cents to 25 cents on the hundred dollars assessed valuation?
Canton R-V School District: Proposition K.I.D.S.: Shall the Board of Education of the Canton R-V School District, Missouri, without an estimated increase in the current debt service property tax levy, borrow money in the amount of two million five hundred thousand dollars ($2,500,000) for the purpose of providing funds to implement safety and security measures; to complete energy efficiency improvements and repairs to include, without limitation, roofs, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, tuck-pointing and other measures that provide long-term operating cost reductions; to the extent funds are available, complete other remodeling and improvements to the existing facilities of the District including technology equipment; and issue bonds for the payment thereof? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service of the School District is estimated to remain unchanged at $0.5500 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.
Canton R-V Fire Protection District has two propositions: Proposition Fire A: Shall the Board of Directors of the Canton R-V Fire Protection District, without an estimated increase of the current debt service property tax levy, borrow money in the amount of Three hundred Twenty Thousand Dollars ($320,000) for the purpose of providing upgraded apparatus and equipment at the Canton, Monticello and Williamstown stations; and issue bonds for the payment thereof?
If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service of the Fire District is estimated to remain unchanged at $0.0718 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.
Canton R-V Fire Protection District Proposition Fire B: Shall the board of directors of the Canton R-V Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of $0.0629 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to a level not more than thirty cents on the one hundred dollars of assessed valuation which is the base authorized rate for a fire protection district in order to provide funds for the continued operational support at all stations of the district?
City elections include City of Ewing: Dean Wagy-Mayor; Alan Toliver-first ward alderman and Clifford Wade second ward alderman. City of Canton; Jarrod Phillips, Mayor; Robin Bracey, Ward 1 Alderman, George Hausdorf, Ward Two Alderman and Sharon Kay Upchurch, Ward 3 Alderman.
Canton R-V School District has two people running for two positions: Michelle Frazier and Josh Welker.
The City of LaBelle has four candidates running for Mayor. They include incumbent Mayor Amy Turpin and Kenneth Rush, Chris Heimer and Scott Hoffman. LaBelle North Ward has two candidates running for two positions open: Linda Goodson and Roy Lewis Sr.
Lewis County C-1 School Board has six candidates running for two positions: Incumbents Robert Reed Miller and Tammy Tate are challenged by Erin Hedges, Lindsay Caudill, Jeremy Geisendorfer and Nicole Simmons. Candidate profiles for Lewis County Board members and LaBelle Mayor candidates. A notice appeared in last week’s edition asking candidates to submit information and those that responded are on page A3.
The Village of Monticello has five positions open, and all five will be chosen by write in votes. Monticello is also asking voters to decide on Proposition A: Shall the Village of Monticello be authorized to forgo annual elections if the number of candidates who have filed for a particular office is equal to the number of positions in the office be filled by the elections.
