Mrs. Ellen Lorraine Puls, 84, of Ewing, Mo., died February 5, 2019 in the Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Mo.

She was born May 28, 1934 in Tolona, Mo., a daughter of Walter Ira and Pauline Clow Kackley. She married Leslie Puls Jr. and he passed away in 1966.

Ellen was a member of the Durham Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served in the church as pianist, Sunday School teacher, Soloist, WMU Director, Discipleship Training Director, and other positions. She loved music and singing and played various instruments (by-ear) including piano, harpsichord, guitar, organ and accordion. For a number of years she owned and operated Lorraine’s Hair Palace in Ewing.

She enjoyed listening to and singing country music and southern gospel music. One of her greatest memories was getting to visit the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and going onstage to stand in the stage center circle of the original Grand Ole Opry.   She was a quilter of handmade quilts given to family for each wedding and birth of grandchildren. Also, quilted for people from all over the United States. She also crocheted many afghans and doilies. Ellen loved being with family, attending family functions and especially enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her four sons, Ronnie (Virginia) Puls of Ewing, Randy Puls of Sanannah, Mo., Les (Laverne) Puls of Canton, Mo., and Mike Puls of Ewing; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two step grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene (Pat) Kackley of Camp Point, Ill; one sister, Sharon (Mike) Johnson of Dade City, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Carl Puls, brothers, Charles and Walter Kackley, sister, Carol Vandermaiden and father and mother in law, Walter and Pauline Kackley.

Private graveside services and burial were held in Ewing Memorial Cemetery by Rev. Russell Brownell.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Durham Baptist Church or to Country Aire Retirement Estates in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing.
