HENRY WILLIAM FELDKAMP

Henry William Feldkamp, 88, of Canton, Mo., died November 5, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Henry William Feldkamp was born August 18, 1930, the son of Ernest and Laura Belle Lehenbauer Feldkamp at the family home outside LaGrange, Mo.  He was married to the girl next door, Nevelyn Wolfmeyer on December 11, 1953.  She preceded him in death on April 2, 1996.  He married Thelma Rose Benning on July 25, 1998.  She survives.

He was baptized into God’s grace and confirmed in his faith at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange, where he worshiped throughout his life.  He served the church as an usher, a trustee, and as an elder.

He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1949.  He worked for the Missouri Highway and Transportation Dept as a laborer, then entered the Army and served in Korea during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.   Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Highway Department and rose to the position of Shed Foreman, then Area Supervisor.   He retired in 1995 after 46 years with the department and became a “Recycling Engineer”.

Henry was a man who knew the value of hard work and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, children, Lois McCutchan of Canton, Kathy (Mike) Sorrill of Liberty, IL, Susan (Dudley) Powell of Palmyra, Gary (Carolyn) Feldkamp of Canton, and Lary (Iola) Feldkamp of Solon, IA, stepchildren: Michael (Karen) Benning of Albequerque, NM, and Janet Armstrong of Ft Myers, FL.  Grandchildren and great- grandchildren: Cherlyn (Grant) Evans, Ryann & Aidan; Emily (Jeremy) Pilkington, Gideon, Zeke, Eva, and Grady; Casey (Ryan) Fountain, Gage, Owen, Alyssa, and Emma; Cara Feldkamp, Matthew (Ashley) Powell, Avery and Millie, Melissa Sorrill, Amanda Sorrill, Luke (Shelby) Powell, Jacob Sorrill, Katelyn Feldkamp& Kellie Feldkamp.  Step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren Ethan (Ann) Benning, Emily and Ari; Jessalyn Armstrong; his sister, Sarah Feldkamp and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nevelyn, brother Norman Feldkamp, and step-grandson Jeffrey Armstrong.

Funeral services were held November 10, 2018 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in La Grange, Mo., with Pastor Jacob Hercamp officiating. Pallbearers:  Matthew Powell, Luke Powell, Jacob Sorrill, Grant Evans, Ryan Fountain, Jeremy Pilkington. Honorary Pallbearers:  Cherlyn Evans, Emily Pilkington, Casey Fountain, Cara Feldkamp, Melissa Sorrill, Amanda Sorrill, Katelyn Feldkamp, Kellie Feldkamp. Music: Wilma Cox, organist; Alice Lee Solter, pianist.

Visitation was held November 9, 2018 at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial with Military Honors was in Mark’s Cemetery in La Grange. 

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to the Great River Honor Flight.
