Lewis County Hunting Fatality

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement on a hunting fatality near Lewistown. On November 10, 2018 at approximately 4:20 a.m. members of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office were called to 19920 State Highway Y, in rural Lewistown, Missouri to a report of a man being shot. Upon arrival officer's discovered a male subject who was deceased.

After further investigation the male was identified as Randell J. Reising, age 52, of Arnold, Missouri. Mr. Reising had died from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced deceased by Lewis County Coroner Larry Arnold at 5:22 a.m.

Preliminary findings indicate Mr. Reising was in a hunting cabin with friends. After waking up at 4:00 a.m. to prepare for the morning hunt, he was accidentally shot by a fellow hunter and friend, Steven A. Lewis, age 50, also of Arnold, Missouri.

This investigation continues pending an autopsy to be performed at the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Lewis County Ambulance Service.
