MAURICE TURNBULL

Maurice Wayne Turnbull , 84, of Nelsonville, Missouri, died August 16, 2018, at his home.

Maurice was born May 30, 1934, in Springfield, Illinois, to Ernest A. and Gussie L. Keeling Turnbull. He married Sandra Cook on December 24, 1959, in Philadelphia, MO at their preacher's house. She survives.

Maurice was a farmer, and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Nelsonville Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving as deacon for more than 40 years. He was also a member of The Gideons International.

He enjoyed farming, antique tractors, gasoline engines and airplanes. He enjoyed steam engine shows and was a member of NEMO Old Thrasher's Club and a charter member of Macon Fly Wheel Club.

Maurice also enjoyed antiques and cuckoo clocks. He played various instruments, including playing organ at his church. He raised his own gourds and had a cactus garden. He enjoyed hummingbirds. Maurice loved to speak German, much to others' dismay at times.

Also surviving are daughters, Christine Schaefer (Gene), Palmyra, MO and Kyla Kordell, Falls Church, VA.; sister, Marcia Irvine (Henry), Eolia, MO; grandchildren, Bryan Schaefer (Nichole), Emerson, MO, Clifford Schaefer (Amy), Camp Lejeune, NC, Jake Schaefer (Katrina), Palmyra, MO, and Courtney Odemis,; great grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kinzleigh, Jaydin, Greta, Heidi, Issac, Savannah and Cheyenne Schaefer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carolyn Sue Smith.

Funeral services were held August 21, 2018, at Nelsonville Baptist Church in Nelsonville, Mo. Rev. Mark McPike officiated. Pallbearers: Bryan Schaefer, Jake Shaefer, Clifford Schaefer, Gene Schaefer, Carl Graves, and Tim Bridgman. Honorary pallbearers: Eric Spratt, Dale Elston, and Ronnie Krigbaum.

Burial with Full Military Rites by Boots-Dickson Post 174 was at Nelsonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
