Matias (Marty) Liguez, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 4, after a brief illness.

Marty was born November 26, 1943 in Gonzales, Texas, a son of Matias Liguez, Sr. and Louise Gonzalez.

Marty grew up in Gonzales, and graduated from high school there. He assisted with his grandparents until adulthood. He later moved to San Antonio where he spent the remainder of his life. He briefly moved to Missouri with his wife, Kathy and his son, Sean to be closer to her family.

He enjoyed 1950’s music as well as songs from artists including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart and Michael Buble. Marty also loved his family.

Marty married Kathy (Wiskirchen) on August 30, 1975 in San Antonio. She survives along with three children, Trey Liguez, Stephanie Liguez and Sean Liguez, all of San Antonio, and grandchildren, Zoie Liguez and Layla Palmer. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Sharon (Liguez) Jolly and her husband Chuck, and Noel Liguez, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Benavidez and Rebecca Reyna, a brother, Jesse Liguez, and his in-laws, Clarence and Esther Wiskirchen.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A mass was held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in San Antonio on August 11, followed by a Celebration of Life at Pedrotti’s North Wind Ranch in Helotes.
