JOHN CLARK WOOD

Mr. John Clark Wood, 95, of Canton, Missouri, died May 6, 2018 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

Mr. Wood was born to Mr. Vaden Thomas Wood and Mrs. Ruth Clark Wood on November 28, 1922 in Paris, Missouri. He graduated from Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, Missouri in 1940 and furthered his education at University of Minnesota before transferring to the University of Missouri in the 1941. In 1943 he joined the US Army and arrived in France in August of 1944. He rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant and fought his way to Berlin where he was stationed in US sector until June 1946. Clark returned to finish his degree in agriculture at Mizzou in 1947. He had a great love for livestock, and was recognized with the highest score on the University of Missouri livestock judging team his senior year.

Following graduation, he was active in the Hereford industry working on ranches in Missouri, Kansas, and Arizona. He was recalled into the US Army inactive reserve in 1950 for the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa training troops for the conflict, until being honorably discharged in 1953.

On May 8, 1952, Clark Wood was united in marriage to Jean McRoberts at the Canton Christian Church in Canton, Mo. The couple resided on the family farm near Canton for sixty three years. Clark was active in the community encouraging youth basketball, and assisted the 4-H livestock show in the Lewis County Fair for many years.

Survivors include his son John T. (Nanette) Wood of Monticello, daughter Susan Kriegel of Grinnell, Iowa, six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Genevieve Wood and Clara Ruth Golay, Son-in-Law Steve Kriegel, and his wife, Jean Wood.

Per Clark’s instructions there will be a private memorial service at a later date.
