HELENA ARMISTEAD

Helena Marie Armistead, 53, of Canton, Missouri, died August 4, 2015 in the Lewis County Nursing Home.

 

Born September 29, 1961 in Quincy, Helena was the daughter of Dale and Inez Cadwell Hedberg. She married Scott Armistead on September 7, 1996 in Quincy. He survives.

 

Helena had a heart for God and grew in her faith at Madison Park Christian Church. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, floral arranging, interior decorating and fishing. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved caring for family and following the activities of her children. She will always be remembered as a second Mom to many of her children's friends.

 

Helena's passion was teaching children, which she did for several years as an Early Childhood and Special Education teacher in the Canton School District. She was last employed for 6 years with the Hannibal Children's Center, first as a teacher and later as a Team Leader until her health forced her retirement.

 

Survivors include her husband, Scott; her parents, Dale and Inez Hedberg of Quincy; three sons, Nathan Potts of Portland, OR, Adam Potts of Ames, IA and Erik Potts of St. Louis, MO; two step children, Kevin Armistead (Jessie) of Center, MO and Kaylen Armistead of St. Louis, MO; a brother, Dale Hedberg (Miriam) of Quincy; a sister, Carmen Curtis (Ivan) of Clarksville, TN; and three loving nieces, Ana Bent (Cameron), Abigail Hedberg and Emily Hedberg.

 

Helena was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Milo and Goldie Hedberg; maternal grandparents, Harley Cadwell and Helen Cadwell VanDusen.

 

Funeral services were held August 8, 2015 at Madison Park Christian Church East Worship Center with Pastor Keith Ehresman officiating. Visitation was held August 7 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hannibal Children's Center or the James E. Cary Cancer Center.
