DOROTHY HELEN NELSON

Mrs. Dorothy Helen Nelson, 102, of Canton, Mo., died February 3, 2018 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born July 27, 1915 in Luray, Mo., a daughter of Lee and Maggie Kirk Newnham. She married Lee Nelson on July 21, 1935 in the Christian Church Parsonage in Canton. He passed away August 1, 2000.

Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church, Extension Club, P.E.O. Chapter BS and Lewis County Nursing Home Auxiliary all of Canton. She was a graduate of Luray High School and had worked in the Lewis County Clerk’s office for over 30 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Hinkle of Canton and Doris Nelson of Quincy, IL; two granddaughters, Robin (Kenny) Greger of Hannibal, MO and Sherri (Don) Schomaker of Germantown, IL; three great grandchildren, Beth (Nick) Bohnenstiehl of St. Jacob, IL, Brad (Jessica) Schomaker of Bartelso, IL and Susan (Gavin) Eubank of Columbia, MO; six great great grandchildren, Everett, Jacob and Katelynn Bohnenstiehl of St. Jacob, IL and Charlotte Schomaker of Bartelso, IL and Arden Marie and Maura Eubank of Columbia, MO and one nephew Dennis Perry of Wyaconda, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Peggy Rosencrans, Edna Perry and her twin Doris Newnham at birth, one brother, Brent Newnham and son-in-law, Leroy Hinkle.

Funeral services were held February 6, 2018 at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Dan Steinbeck and Pastor Harry Cooper officiating.Music: Karla McReynolds, organist. Pallbearers: Kenny Greger, Don Schomaker, Gavin Eubank, Brad Schomaker, Nick Bohnenstiehl and Larry Cole

Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.

The family suggests memorials be made to Culver-Stockton College Athletic Department, P.E.O. Chapter BS, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
