JAMES EVANS SR.

James A. Evans Sr., 89, of Quincy, died January 19, 2018 in his home.
James was born June 1, 1928 in Pike County, Illinois, the son of James and Retha Grunden Evans. On December 24, 1955 he married Violet GertrudeTurnbaugh in Pittsfield, Illinois. She died June 27, 1999.
James entered the U.S. Army in August 1952 where he served as Corporal in occupied Germany and was discharged in August of 1954. He returned to the family home in Pittsfield, Illinois and began working as a machinist for the Gardner-Denver Company, retiring in 1991, after 35 years. He had also worked for Wardlow Excavation.
James' hobbies were woodworking, making wood toys for all the grandchildren, and making wooden porch swings and bird houses.
Survivors include six children, James A. Evans, Jr. of Quincy, Kathy Evans of Quincy, Vicki (Raymond) Eichor of Durham, MO, Cindy Robinson of Springfield, IL, Jackie Bennett of Quincy, and Linda Green of Texas; ten grandchildren, Michele (William) Logsdon, Kristi Evans, Jeremy (Megan) Spidle, Jessica (Mike) Dauphine, Debbie (Mark) Dunford, Jennifer Green, and Shane, Patrick and Tracy Evans; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Jim) Hoots and Linda Herrington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Violet, James was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Christopher Eichor, a great-grandson, Roxy Evans, a brother, Ted Evans, three sisters, Verneal Chipman, Lena Brassfield and Evelyn Ford, and a son-in-law, Gerald Green.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday January 26, 2018 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Wentzel officiating. Visitation from noon to 2 p.m., January 26, 2018 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
