ROBERT WEHRMANN

August 23, 2017

Robert Henry Wehrmann, 95, of Cookeville, TN, passed away August 18, 2017.

Bob was born March 3, 1922 in Lewis County, Missouri to Fred and Sabina (Stone) Wehrmann. He was raised in Northeast Missouri with his brother and five sisters. Bob graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Bob served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater on a LST. After returning from the war, Bob went to work in St. Louis, Missouri where he met and married the love of his life, Ann Prather. Bob and Ann were married in 1951. They moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and began an incredible life filled with love and life-long friendships. From Charlotte, they moved to Columbia, Missouri, where they resided until 2003.

Bob spent his life providing for his family and making lasting impacts on anyone he came to meet. He and Ann were wonderful entertainers, and Bob was the quintessential host for multi-generational parties filled with family that were close friends and friends that were treated as family. Any event was considered a time to celebrate, but many friends and family will remember the festivities centered on Mizzou football weekends. Bob worked for the Agricultural Extension at the University of Missouri for thirty-eight years. In Columbia, Bob and Ann also raised their three children, Steve, Gail, and Sara.

Bob loved sports, the outdoors, gardening, books, friends, and his family. He was an avid camper and outdoorsman, and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren. Grandbob, Uncle Bob, S.O.B. or Sweet Ole’ Bob: Bob was known by many monikers, but whichever name was used, everyone who came to know him was touched by a sweetness, humility, and grace that will ensure that his spirit lives on forever.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Sabina Wehrmann; his brothers Harold Scott and Ralph Wehrmann; his sister Mary (Wehrmann) Robertson; his loving wife Ann (Prather) Wehrmann.

Bob is survived by his sisters Helen Pierre, Rose Loose, Moe Pollock, and Ruth Lynch; his son Stephen (Kimberly) Wehrmann; daughters Gail (Kim) Stearman and Sara Wehrmann (Lenly Weathers); grandchildren, Derek (Lindsay) Wehrmann, Richard Wehrmann (Blanca), Stephanie (Robert) Thigpen, Bo (Ligia) Stearman, Taylor (Hannah) Stearman, Thomas Weathers and Matthew Weathers; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Wehrmann, Gracelyn Green, Robert III Tripp Thigpen, Sara Lucia Stearman, and Leo Bela Stearman. He is also survived by many loving brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

The Wehrmann family would like to give special thanks to Angie Jones, Debbie Bantz, Cheri Meadows, Janice Hargis, Karen Hogue, Pearl Smith, and Ashley McCormick.

Bob was a larger-than-life figure to his family and their friends, a consummate father to his children, a father figure to many countless family friends, and a doting and dedicated husband. Bob had an ever present sense of humor that demonstrated a tremendous love of life and brightened all the countless lives he touched. He opened his arms and his heart to all of us; he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A private memorial service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please embrace Bob’s generous spirit by sharing an act of kindness.
