Shirley Ann Cook, 80, of Hamilton, Ill., died September 16, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Shirley was born August 21, 1937, in Carthage, Illinois the daughter of Nichol Madison and Minnie Alice (Cooper) Hurt. On September 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to Merle Jim Cook in Keokuk, Iowa. Shirley was known for the wedding dresses and bride’s maid’s dresses she had made over the years. In addition to sewing she enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and crossword puzzles. She was also an avid football fan and enjoyed watching games in her jerseys. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Hospital in Carthage. Shirley dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by four children, Alice (Jim) Schnelle, LaGrange, Mo; Lorrie (Lynn) Pilkington, Hamilton, Ill; Nichol (Tammy) Cook, Camdenton, Mo., and Bonnie Johnson, Keokuk, Iowa; step children, Jeannie (Rich) Sill and Barbara Cook and families; grandchildren, Miranda (Jason) Sutton, Josh (Brianna) Cook, Devon (Matt Wiese) Buckert, Drake (Lisa) Johnson, Mallory Buckert, Lauren Johnson, Brooke Schnelle, Gage Johnson, Jacob (Sarah) Cook and Dalton Schnelle; great grandchildren, Remi, William, Dakota and Jaycie Cook, Camrin, Chloe, Bryar and Harper Johnson, Nate and Abby Pilkington, Aiden Bartlett and Alaina and Mason Sutton; nephew, Bill (Debbie) Fehsenfeld; niece, Linda Fehsenfeld and families; close friend, Alice Wear Dierker; and many Cook family nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Cook; sister, Marie Fehsenfeld; niece Marion Parker and nephew, Phil Fehsenfeld.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Franklin Cemetery near Carthage. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
