JOAN RYAN

Joan Ryan of Hannibal, Mo.,died October 31, in Blue Springs, Mo. Joan was born on June 13, 1933 to Lee Joseph and Bernice Bethel Orendorff.On September 3, 1951 Joan married James William Ryan. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2016. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter who delighted every member of her family with many unique and special creations. Over the years, Joan spent many happy times gardening, playing cards, and swimming-at the swim club in Canton and later at the YMCA in Hannibal. During her teen years, Joan was an AAU gymnast and a competitive ice skater.Most of all, Joan cherished the many holiday, birthday, and travel opportunities spent with her family. Joan was an active member of St. Joseph Altar Society in Canton then the quilting club of Holy Family Church in Hannibal. Joan was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal. Survivors include five children, Linda Frances Vlahovich (Gary) of Norfolk, VA, Thomas Carey Ryan of Houston, TX, William Nicholas Ryan (Karen) of Blue Springs, MO, James Lee Ryan (Vicki) of Davenport, IA, and Cindy Joan Griesbauer (Michael) of Blue Springs, MO, 13 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.A Memorial Mass and Life Celebration for Joan was held November 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, Mo. Burial was at Holy Family Cemetery in Hannibal, Mo. The family is being served by the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, Mo.
