MILDRED E. BERRY

Mildred Berry, 95, left this earth to join her heavenly father and beloved family members on June 28, 2016. Mildred was born on July 21, 1920 in Leon, Iowa to Arthur and Eva Downey. She grew up and completed her high school education in Indianola, Iowa in 1938. Mildred graduated from Tobias Beauty College in South Bend, Indiana. She owned and operated The Deluxe Beauty Salon for 50 years before retiring. Mildred married Herman J. Nash in 1938. In 1952, Mildred married her true love and best friend Leland W. Berry. They had the blessing and joy of raising Mildred’s two children, Karma and William (Bill) Berry. Mildred was an exceptional mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Mildred also enjoyed her many friends, especially those with whom she shared Bible study class and her weekly luncheon at Primos. She was a Deacon Emeritus of the Canton Christian Church and served on the Library Board for many years. She was a former President of the BPW club and was honored with the Community Service Award in 1995. Mildred is survived by her son, William F. (Lois) Berry; granddaughters Kelly (Abraham) Vorster and Kristin (Mark) Hatch and grandson Matthew (Jackie) Berry. She was blessed with great-grandchildren Clinton and Faith Berry, Willem and Owen Vorster, and Will and Charlie Hatch along with one great-great granddaughter Allyanna Berry. She is also survived by her sister, Dixie (Robert) Janney along with many nephews and nieces. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leland, daughter Karma, three brothers and their wives. Funeral services were held July 2, 2016 at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton. Pastor Mandy Gosik and Pastor Harry Cooper officiated. Music: Karla McReynolds, organist. Pallbearers: Robert Janney, Rick Janney, Jeff Janney, David Gaither, Nick Janney and Jesse Uhlmeyer. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Canton Public Library, Canton Christian Church or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice in care of Davis Funeral Home, Canton, MO.
