JOHN JONES

John Robert “Dick” Jones, 85 of Canton, Missouri, died April 18, 2022 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

The son of Edward and Clara Rice Jones was born on March 6, 1937 at Quincy, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Buddy Jean Jones on September 8, 1956 at Quincy, Illinois and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2021.

Dick was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Canton. He served in the U. S. Navy and worked at Quincy Compressor from 1963-2002. He was instrumental in starting the Canton Hope AA Group and was a guiding light to many. Dick was often ornery and frequently commented that “He was not stubborn or hard headed, but single minded”. Though ornery at times, he was also witty, had fun sharing jokes and was an excellent storyteller. Dick enjoyed gardening, flowers, and sitting with his dog, Pinky. He was also an avid reader and loved watching old war movies, much to his wife’s chagrin. However, it was his family he loved the most and frequently told them so.

Dick is survived by three daughters, Kim (David) McKenzie of Glasgow, Mo., Danna Jones and Jim McGruder of Canton, Mo. and Dawn (Troy) Cook of Quincy, Il.; adopted daughter, Regina Manley of Canton, Mo.; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Michael Jones.

Graveside services and inurnment for both Dick and Buddy will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:30 PM at the Little Mountain Cemetery at Monticello, Missouri with Larry Sparks officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Lewis County Memorial Post 578.

Honorary Pallbearers: Gary McKenzie, Patterson Fagot’, Andrew McKenzie, Christopher Fagot’, Troy Cook, Jr., Michael Manley and Jarod Cook.

Memorials may be made to the family for the benefit of the grandchildren.
