CONSTANCE (CONNIE) VANFLEET

Constance (Connie) VanFleet, 75, of Ewing, Mo., went to join her father in heaven on January 12, 2016, at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown.

Connie was born April 27, 1940 in Quincy, Ill., the daughter of Harvey and Juanita (Morton) Alderton. Connie was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her days reading scripture and helping those in need. Her legacy of caring and charity lives on beyond her time on this earth.

She married John Bartz Sr. on November 10, 1957. From this union they had six children. She later married Carl VanFleet on April 27, 1996. They made their home in Ewing, Mo.

Connie is survived by her husband of 19 years Carl of the home; six children, daughters Jennie (Danny) Johnston of Maywood, Rita Slaughter (Chad Kerker) and Angela (Tony) Johnson of Ewing, and sons John (Lettishia) Bartz Jr. and Alan (Desi) Bartz of Maywood, and Charles (Marcy) Bartz of LaGrange; three stepdaughters Kathy VanFleet, Charlotte (George) Padbury, and Myrtle (Jeff) Weisenburger, and one stepson Gary (Theresa) VanFleet; eight granddaughters Tasha (Luke) Rothweiler, Tiffany Dade, Amy (Travis) Hustead, Ashley Owens, Sierrah Bartz, Hannah Bartz, Bridgette Bartz, and Natalie Bartz; eight grandsons Daniel Johnston, James Miller, Joshua (Sharon) Miller, John (Kendra) Bartz III, Bryan Bartz, Ray (Kelly) Johnson, Ian Bartz, and Lane Bartz; eleven step-grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four sisters Joyce Hall, Dianna Olson, Glenda (Tony) Frias, and Minnie (Hamid) Sharifinejad; one brother James (Janice) Alderton.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral services were held January 15, 2016 at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing, with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. Pallbearers: John Bartz III, James Miller, Josh Miller, Bryan Bartz, Ray Johnson, and Ian Bartz. Visitation was held Jan. 14.

Honorary pallbearers: Daniel Johnston, Lane Bartz, Luke Rothweiler, and Travis Hustead. Music: Amazing Grace and Picture Me Without You

Burial was in Durham Cemetery in Durham, Missouri.

The family suggests memorials in memory of Connie be made to Carl VanFleet to assist with funeral expenses or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
