Leora B. Gliessman

November 30, 2020

Leora B. Gliessman (nee Barkley) passed away early Monday morning, October 19, 2020. She was 95 years old. She was the daughter of Earl and Helen Barkley, long time residents of Canton, MO and owners of Barkley Funeral Home (now Davis Funeral Home). Leora (Lee) was born on August 6, 1925 and married the love of her life John Gliessman on August 26, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas. They returned to Canton after John was discharged from the Marine Corps where John attended and graduated from Culver Stockton College. Lee also attended Culver Stockton briefly before the family moved out of state. Their eldest child, David, was born in Quincy in 1946. Lee and John eventually made their way out to California in 1952 where they raised their three children, David (Stanwood, Washington), Beth (Kailua, Hawaii), and Dan (Highlands Ranch, Colorado). After a 3 year period living in Hawaii near their daughter Beth, they returned to California in 1975 and settled in Poway, just north of San Diego. John passed away in 1995 and Lee remained in their beautiful home on a golf course until 2014 when she moved to an Assisted Living community in Ranch Bernardo, California. In 2017, she moved to a Memory Care residence in Encinitas California and passed away in hospice care in Carlsbad, California. Her eldest son David passed away in 2019.

She was a loving mom, grandmother of 6 and great-grandmother of 10. She lived a long and wonderful life. She loved her family, loved to travel and was always ready for a glass of wine and a chocolate candy or two. She will be missed by all of us.
