MINOR GIBBS

Minor Wimberly Gibbs, Jr. 66, of Canton, Mo., went to Heaven with Jesus on November 7, 2015 at Quincy, Illinois.

Chubby was born in Marshall, Texas, on October 12, 1949, and was raised in DeBerry, Texas, the son of Minor W. Gibbs, Sr. and Nobie Mae Timmons Gibbs.

He was united in marriage to Sandra K. Whaley on June 19, 1976 in Laurel Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He graduated from Elysian Fields High School in 1968 and served in the Army from 1969 to 1971 as an aviation mechanic in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked as a carpenter for over 20 years before joining the Army Corps of Engineers as a Lock and Dam Operator first in Joliet,

Illinois, then in Quincy, Illinois for 24 years. Chubby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, Missouri.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sandra K. Gibbs of Canton, Mo., one daughter, Spring G. Lyon and husband Mark of Canton, Missouri, one brother, Blackie Gibbs and wife Brenda of Longview, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Dora Anderson, Jackie Moore, Tricia Noble, Annie Mae Cole, and Nona Bell Beason, and one brother, Buddy Gibbs.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Canton, Missouri with Rev. Brian Stone officiating. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion, Otto Bruner Post 170 will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. Visitation was held Nov. 10 at the First Baptist Church of Canton. Pallbearers: Harry Hill, Dennis McDonald, Bryan Spicer, Shawn Steeples, Dana Koening, Jeff Gibbs and Tim Crisp. Honorary Pallbearers: Jim Hurt, Roger Cook, Hugh Harness, Terry Winters and Jackie Robinson.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Canton, Missouri.
