OSCAR JOHNSON

Oscar F. Johnson of Ewing, Mo., died June 14, 2019 in the Lewis County Nursing at Canton, Mo.

He was born November 13, 1932 at Maywood, MO a son of Emmett and Dora Minch Johnson. 

He was a loving husband and father, and was always happy go lucky. He and his wife, Emma Jean Ward were married December 22, 1956 in Quincy, Ill. They were married for 62 years. Oscar graduated from Ewing High School in 1950 and worked for Central Fiber for seven years and then at Quincy Compressor for 34 years retiring in 1997. He loved to fish, make a garden and work with wood. Oscar served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Feb. 11, 1953 to Jan. 5, 1955. 

Surviving are his wife, Emma, of Ewing; children, Brenda (David) Cottrell of Kahoka, Mo., and Bonnie (Darren) Cottrell of Monticello, MO; grandchildren, Eric (Lexi) Cottrell of Kahoka, Amy (Zach) Geisendorfer of Lewistown, and Josh Cottrell of Monticello; great grandchildren, Coy Cottrell of Kahoka, Peyton, Logan, Emersyn and Andie Geisendorfer, all of Lewistown, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Leo, Taylor and Emmett Jr. and two sisters, Mytrle Crane and Georgia Crane.

 Funeral services were held June 18, 2019 at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing, Mo., with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. Visitation preceded services. Music: “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross”

Pallbearers: George Crane, John Crane, Lynn Crane, Eric Cottrell, Josh Cottrell and Zach Geisendorfer.

Burial with full military honors was in the Durham Cemetery in Durham, MO. 

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
