Larry Morriss, 79 of Canton, Mo., died February 4, 2019 at Wyaconda State Park near La Grange, Mo.

Larry was born December 30, 1939 in Lewistown, Mo., a son of Noble C. and Hazel L. Van Meter Morriss. He married Bettie Jean Cammel on January 11, 1959 in LaBelle, Mo. She survives.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of La Belle High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ewing and also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family. He taught archery in 4-H, was on an archery league for a few years in Quincy, and helped with trap shooting at Highland High School. Larry was also a member of Craft Lodge #287 A.F. & A.M. in Canton. He worked for Frontier Airlines in Lincoln, NE, Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance of Quincy, Highland Market in Ewing for 17 years. He also worked at Merkels, Huck Store Fixtures, Game Masters, and Menards all of Quincy.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie J. Morriss of Canton; one daughter, Cindy Cary of Canton; two granddaughters, Laura Cary of Canton and Leanne (Cody) James of Brasher, MO; great granddaughter Cora Beth James of Brashear, Mo. one sister, Carolyn Brooks of Maquoketa, IA; one brother Norman (Betty) Morriss of Greenville, IN; one sister in law, Donna Lawson of Ewing, Mo., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Van and Wilbur Morriss, son in law, Kevin Cary, brothers in law, Bill Brooks and Richard Lawson and one nephew, David Lawson.

Funeral services were held February 9, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Ewing with Pastor Tim Smith and Rev. Dr. Jeff Brown officiating. Music provided by: Jeanna Houchins, Organist; Congregational Hymns, How Great Thou Art and When we all get to Heaven.

Pallbearers: Jack Fountain, Danny Griesbaum, Ernie Wallace, Kevin Kelly, Bob Wallace, and Danny Mittleberg

Visitation was held February 8, 2019. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton

Burial was in La Belle Cemetery, La Belle, Mo.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Ewing or to the Lewis County Fair.
