MARY EVELYN NEWBERRY

Mary Evelyn Newberry, age 98, of Canton, Mo., died January 11, 2019. in the Lewis County Nursing Home at Canton.

She was born January 19, 1920 in Dallas City, IL a daughter of Harry and Lydia Frances Parrish Wolgemuth. She married Marshal T. Newberry on October 11, 1937 in Kahoka, MO. He died June 9, 1989.

Mary was the oldest of seven children. She had worked in a bank in Montrose, IA until 1959 when she and Marshal moved to Canton. She then worked at Niemann Foods at the corner of 4th and Lewis Streets. She and Marshal bought property on old Monticello road in Canton where they built there home and many others in the neighborhood. She stayed at home to raise her five kids and also helped to care for many of her grandchildren. Marshal also remodeled part of their home and built a shop for her so she could reuplolster furniture and make curtains. Mary enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include one daughter, Marty Dochterman of Canton and one son, Michael Newberry of La Belle, MO; eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three children, Rozella K. St. Clair, Richard Newberry and Mary Katherine (Kathy) Waltz; two grandchildren and one great grandchild, four brothers, Dale, Lenford, Ray and Earl Wogemuth, and two sisters, Frances Dochterman and Joyce Hoover.

Funeral services were held January 14, 2019 at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Harry Cooper officiating. Visitation was held prior to time of services at the funeral home.

Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton

The family suggests memorials be made to Lewis County Nursing Home.
