JAMES A. COMPTON

Mr. James Allen Compton Sr., 75, of Ewing, Mo., died November 17, 2018 at his home in rural Ewing.

He was born May 23, 1943 at home in Durham, Mo., a son of James Palmer and Violet Adaline Compton. He married Helen Jeanette Jones on July 17, 1965 in Ewing, Mo.

James never met stranger and never turned his back on anyone in need. He became an ordained minister with the World Christianship Ministries in March of 2000. He spent the first thirty years of his adult life as a woodcutter and a small engine mechanic. For the last twenty-two years, his primary job was cemetery maintenance. While still enjoying small engine repair, he took great pride in making sure the local cemeteries that he cared for were a source of pride for the community.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Helen of Ewing; three children, Patricia Langley and finance Mike Maddix of Hannibal, MO, Rebecca Compton of Keithville, LA and James (Carie) Compton Jr. of Ewing; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Ancel (Karen) Compton of Sedalia, MO; three sisters, Lola (Bill) Woutzke of Wymore, NE, Vesta Majors of Chubbick, ID and Brenda Sturm of Milan, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother Thomas T. Compton, sister Elva Kay Swarts, one sister-in-law and six brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Honorary Pallbeaers: Gary Shephard, Darrell Shephard, Joseph Forcade, Charles Patterson and Joe Brumbaugh

Cremation will follow and inurnment will be held at a later date in Steffenville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
