Canton Board of Education Meeting

The Canton R-V School District Board of Education met on October 8, 2018. During open session, the Board approved the consent agenda and financial report. The current balance in Funds 1-4 as of 9/30/2018 is $2,242,723.77. This is a $171,496.51 increase over the previous year. Our unrestricted balance in Fund 1 is currently $839,008.97.The Board of Directors was updated by the administration regarding the bond issue that will be on the ballot in April of 2019. Over the last month, GRP Mechanical Contractors and Control Technology and Solutions (CTS) have both performed on-site inspections and surveys. Both companies will present their proposals to the Board of Education at the November regular meeting and a single provider will be selected. The Board was notified that the health inspector performed an on-site inspection of the cafeteria and kitchen facilities and no major concerns were found.

In new business, as part of our policy review, the Board of Directors readopted Policies 0000-Organization, Philosophy, and Goals and 1000- General Administration. The Board also approved designating Mr. Uhlmeyer as the Foster Care Coordinator. The Board of Directors established the following maximum rates to be paid for meal reimbursements: $8.00 for breakfast, $12.00 for lunch, and $15.00 for dinner. The Board also authorized the administration to pursue a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Canton and the Canton Police Department. As part of the MOU, the Board would like the District and the City of Canton to consider the addition of a school resource officer.

In executive session, the Board heard matters involving student welfare and personnel. The Board conducted mid-year reviews of the superintendent and building administrators. The Board of Directors also granted two exemptions to Policy 4320 – Personnel Leave. Abigail English was hired as the varsity/junior varsity cheerleading sponsor and Carla Arnold was hired as the junior high cheerleading sponsor.
