James Richard Dettlaff, Sr., 76 of Canton, Missouri went to meet his savior March 3, 2018 at the Lewis County Nursing Home at Canton.

James was born in Chicago, Illinois June 21, 1941 to Lawrence J. and Zenobia Waletzko Dettloff.

He was married to his beloved wife Carol Lundstrom on June 17, 2000 at Lake Ozark, Missouri. They resided in Lake Ozark, Missouri until they moved to Canton, Missouri.

James was employed by RCA then General Electric in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy 1960-1964. He was a member of American Legion Emmett J. Shields Post 55 in Hannibal, Missouri. Jim loved to work in the yard and garden with his cat Dusty until his stroke in 2012. He loved to watch birds, butterflies and deer. He was the middle child of 13 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Dettlaff of Canton, Mo.; step-daughter, Kathleen (Pat) Wilda of Minooka, Il.; daughter, Tina (Robert) Hendricks of Weatherford, Texas; son, James R. (Korena) Dettlaff, Jr. of Brumlee, Mo.; daughter, Jonna Dettlaff of Illinois; son, Michael Dettlaff of Illinois; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Karen (Ivan) Granko of Oak Forest, Il. and Joyce (Ron) Cannon of Indiana; five brothers, Daniel (Rose) Dettloff of Port Richie, Fl., Thomas Dettlaff of Arizona, Ray Dettlaff of Chicago, Il., Gene (Gail) Dettlaff of Alsip, Il. and Gary Dettlaff of Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Dettlaff of Port Richie, Fl. and Debra Dettlaff of Lake Zurich, Il.; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Debbie Palmer, grandson, Patrick Wilda, sister, Ruth Dettloff, four brothers, Robert, Ernie, Dale and Larry Dettlaff.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 Inurnment will be in the Minooka Cemetery at Minooka, Illinois at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the donor’s choice.
