LEAH JEAN GURNEY

Leah Jean Gurney, 83, of Hazel Green, Alabama, died October 29, 2017 in her home. 

Born July 6, 1933 in Galesburg, Illinois, Jean married James E. Gurney on January 25, 1955. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1993. 

Jean lived in Ewing, Missouri on their family farm. After retiring from farming, she moved into the Senior Center in Ewing. It was there that she enjoyed visiting with her friends, playing cards and taking care of her animals. In her later years she loved visiting with her grandchildren, working outside, taking car rides, reading everything she could get her hands on and watching the Rodeo on Television. 

Survivors include two daughters, Callie Seckman of Hazel Green, AL and Marqueda White of Dechard, Tenn; also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. 



Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim and her sisters, Patricia Forquer and Carol Forquer Snow. 

Jean will be sorely missed but will rejoice in the fact that she has been reunited with her beloved husband Jim.



 Cremation has been accorded to Leah Jean. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday (December 2, 2017) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy. 

Memorials may be made to the family to plant trees in her honor, or to the ASPCA.
