JANICE WANZER LEWIS

Janice Wanzer Lewis, 85, of Rochester, formerly of Canton, Mo., died July 20, 2015 at her residence.

Janice was born on August 1, 1929 in Hinsdale the daughter of Gordon Bradley and Erma Vashti Edmiston Wanzer. She married John W. Lewis in 1965; he preceded her in death in 1977.

Janice was a 1948 graduate of Hinsdale Township High School and a graduate of Culver Stockton College. Janice taught elementary school for over 30 years. She retired from Canton R-V schools in 1993, where she touched many lives. Mrs. Lewis was known for care, compassion and setting an example to treat others with respect.

Janice was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton, MO and later Rochester United Methodist Church. Janice was also a member of Chi Omega Sorority, United Methodist Women, MSTA, AAUW, and BPW. She also supported the Humane Society and Audubon Society. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, her pets, the beach, collecting sea shells and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Shelly (Shawn) Conner of Springfield, IL; three grandchildren, Abbey, Grace, and Mia all of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, G. Bradley Wanzer Jr.; and sister, Muriel Meador Thiedel.

Visitation and memorial services were held July 26, 2015 at Rochester United Methodist Church with Reverend Kathy Sweet officiating.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Wanzer Family Mausoleum in West Dundee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League, Rochester Fire and Rescue or Rochester United Methodist Church.
