WALTER “FRED” EHRET

Walter F. "Fred" Ehret, 90, of New London, Missouri, died February 19, 2017 at his home. Fred was born November 17, 1926, in Busch, Missouri to Fritz and Alfa J. Wood Ehret. He was married to Vernetta Miller on April 5, 1947 in Hannibal, Missouri. She preceded him in death February 25, 2013. Fred served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Professionally, Fred first worked for Valley Steel and then later was a lifelong farmer, while also working as a heavy equipment operator. Away from work, Fred enjoyed duck and deer hunting and fishing. Often hunting and fishing on or near the Mississippi River. After retiring from farming, Fred took pleasure in gardening and always raised the best potatoes and tomatoes. An avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, Fred enjoyed watching and listening to games and had attended games at all of the Cardinal Stadiums with the exception of the newest stadium. Above all Fred simply enjoyed the time that he shared with his family and friends. Survivors include four children, Wayne Ehret (Joyce) of New London, Mo, Dean Ehret (Donna) of New London, Mo, Chuck Ehret (Debbie) of Hannibal, Mo., and Mary Lynn Taylor (Jere) of Canton, Mo., one brother, Andrew Ehret (Maureen) of Martinsburg, Mo., one sister, Lola Belle Sinclair of Hannibal, Mo., and 12 grandchildren, Dwayne Ehret, Endy Ehret, Sara Ehret, Allison Ehret, Joe Ehret, Brandi Ehret, Heath Ehret, Brice Harvey, Seth Harvey, Lezlie Durst (Ethan), Hollie Taylor and Aron Knoche (Evan). He is preceded in death by two brothers, George Ehret and Lawrence Ehret, two sisters, Mary Jane McGeorge, Paulina Tompkins and an infant granddaughter, Rose Ehret. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. February 22, 2017 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo. Pallbearers: Dwayne Ehret, Joe Ehret, Heath Ehret, Seth Harvey, Sara Ehret, and Lezlie Durst. Honorary pallbearer:Brice Harvey. Friends and Family were invited to Fred’s Life Celebration at a visitation held Feb. 21 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Burial with Full Military Rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55 will be at Fairview Cemetery in Louisiana, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to Great River Honor Flight in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
