DORIS RHODES

Doris Virginia Rhodes, 89, of Center, Mo., died July 31, 2016 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, Mo. Doris was born April 30, 1927, in Hannibal, Mo., to Larry Linville and Lila Burch Doyle. She was married to Donald Lee Rhodes on Nov. 6, 1943 in Hannibal, MO. He died July 24, 2010. A loving daughter, then wife, a doting mother and grandmother, Doris' family was everything to her. The close-knit Rhodes clan took her on vacation trips to Florida, Las Vegas, Michigan and the Ozarks and Branson, MO. All holidays and birthdays were celebrated with big family dinners at her house, where she was in her element, cooking up a storm. Doris worked as a grocery store clerk at Hayden's IGA Store in Center for over 15 years. She also worked as a waitress at several restaurants when she was younger, including Fern's White Rose Diner in Hannibal in the 1950's. Doris was a member of Center Baptist Church. Survivors include three children, Mike Rhodes (Debby) of Center, MO, Pat Rhodes (Terry) of Chesterfield, MO, and Colleen Jones (Rick) of Center, Mo, five grandchildren, Steve Rhodes (Lisa), Dr. Kevin Rhodes, Kristi Rhodes, Bryan Jones, and Nathan Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Waddie Calvert Hughes, one brother, John W. Doyle and an infant daughter, Susan Kathleen Rhodes. Doris will be remembered by her friends and family for her loving, devoted, and friendly personality. Funeral Services were held August 5, 2016 at Center Baptist Church in Center, Mo., with Pastor Dan Peters officiating.Pallbearers were Steve Rhodes, Kevin Rhodes, Kristi Rhodes, Bryan Jones, Nathan Jones and Adam Ogle.
